As in the original SLEDAI, all the descriptors in SLEDAI-2K must be attributed to lupus activity. SLEDAI-2K was therefore modified to allow the documentation of ongoing disease activity and includes the presence (new or ongoing) of any inflammatory rash, alopecia, or mucosal ulcers, and new, recurrent, or persistent proteinuria greater than 0.5 g in 24 hours. Affected SLEDAI descriptors included rash, alopecia, mucosal ulcers, and proteinuria. 47 In the glossary of the original SLEDAI, certain descriptors were scored as active only if they were new thus, persistently active disease manifestations were not scored, suggesting an apparent improvement that in fact had not occurred. SLEDAI-2K was introduced and validated in 2002. Bruce, in Dubois' Lupus Erythematosus and Related Syndromes (Ninth Edition), 2019 SLEDAI-2000 (2K).
